Sr. Accounting Officer


As the Senior Accounting Officer at First Volunteer, you will oversee day-to-day accounting and finance operations and provide bank-wide leadership in more complex accounting and reporting processes. Working directly with the CFO in maintaining integrity in the bank’s financial statements and overseeing regulatory filing requirements, you will also be the go-to expert in monitoring and translating industry accounting changes and their implications to the bank.



  • Required Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA licensure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as a productive member of a team
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications, such as Microsoft Office products, with an emphasis in spreadsheets, word processing and database software
  • Strong foundation in GAAP concepts
  • Public accounting or regulatory experience specific to banking
  • Five years of financial services accounting experience
  • Good interpersonal skills across organizational levels




  • Provide leadership in the development, design, implementation, and ongoing management of assigned and more complex accounting and reporting processes.
  • Provide training and guidance to accounting team and peers with respect to understanding, recording, and reporting more complex accounting transactions.
  • Oversee the accurate and timely compilation and submission of accounting-related reports and filings in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), management and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with internal policies and FDICIA.
  • Plan for orderly workflow and continued growth.
  • Prepare, or review and approve, journal entries and monitor assigned account activity to ensure they accurately record First Volunteer’s financial transactions.
  • Ensure that supporting documentation is maintained.
  • Review and approve reconcilements for assigned general ledger accounts in accordance with reconcilement standards.
  • Research and resolve items promptly and as necessary.
  • Design, implement and document more complex accounting and reporting process workflow and controls for assigned accounts and subsidiary accounting systems (which may include spreadsheets, databases or applications), including reconcilement and monitoring processes and controls.
  • Effectively implement control refinements as products, processes, GAAP, regulatory reporting requirements or corporate policies change.
  • Design, prepare or review, submit and interpret reports related to financial performance, internal control compliance, budget or forecast variances, etc.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain or update existing departmental policies or standards for compliance with governmental regulations and corporate policies and standards.
  • Develop new accounting processes and procedures as needed.
  • Ensure that responses to auditor/examination requests for information are complete and accurate.
  • Ensure the submission of required schedules, reports, and other filings to department or regulatory authority in a timely and accurate manner.
