Basic & Advanced IRA-Spring 2025

Ben Norquist, co-founder and CEO for Convergent Retirement Plans will cover the basic and advanced aspects as an IRA custodian. The Day 1 basic seminar will include beginning knowledge of IRA terminology, proper IRA set-up and plan opening, qualifications and contribution limits for all IRA plan types, rollovers and transfers, and basic distribution information. The Day 2 intermediate-level seminar will explain the most up-to-date changes, including health savings accounts and non-spouse beneficiary rollovers from qualified plans. You will also learn what to include in your IRA customer files. Note for all IRA training: Each single day of IRA training can be attended independently of the other, but for the most comprehensive learning experience, attending both sessions back to back is recommended.

Ben Norquist, Co-founder and CEO

Ben is the co-founder and CEO of Convergent. After receiving a BA degree in 1987 from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, Ben started with Universal Pensions, Inc. (UPI), a nationally recognized consulting and training firm located in central Minnesota. Over the next fifteen years, Ben had the good fortune to lead several highly successful business units within UPI, including the company’s consulting hotline. During his tenure at UPI, Ben received the certified pension consultant (CPC) designation from the American Society of Pension Actuaries and played a key role in creating the industry’s first IRA-specific designation program (the American Bankers Association’s Certified IRA Services Professional (CISP) program). Ben and his wife, Jennifer, subsequently co-founded Convergent Retirement Plan Solutions, LLC, in 2004. Ben is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, and has been interviewed by numerous publications including Forbes, MarketWatch, Kiplinger’s, Investment News, SmartMoney, Financial Advisor Magazine, Money Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal.

Continuing Education Credit

In-person attendees qualify for 5.0 of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit in the area of Specialized Knowledge and MUST be sure to sign in and out on the CPE attendance tracking sheet in order to receive credit.
In accordance with the standards of the National Registry of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Sponsors, CPE credits have been granted based on a 50-minute hour.
Tennessee Bankers Association is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
