Chief Deposit Officer

Supervises: Retail Banking, Treasury Management, Deposit Operations (structure may vary)
Position Summary
The Chief Deposit Officer (CDO) is responsible for the strategic leadership, growth, and profitability of the bank’s deposit franchise. This executive develops and executes strategies to attract, retain, and deepen core deposit relationships across retail, commercial, and municipal segments while maintaining a strong focus on cost of funds, liquidity stability, and relationship banking.
The CDO leads deposit sales strategy, treasury management growth, branch performance, product development, and customer experience initiatives to support the bank’s overall growth objectives. The role partners closely with lending, credit, finance, and operations leadership to ensure a balanced and sustainable funding strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Deposit Growth Strategy
- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to grow core deposits across consumer, business, and public fund segments.
- Establish annual deposit growth goals aligned with the bank’s strategic plan.
- Identify market opportunities for deposit expansion in the bank’s footprint.
- Lead initiatives to increase relationship depth and primary bank status with customers.
Treasury Management Leadership
- Drive growth of treasury management products including:
- ACH services
- Remote deposit capture
- Cash management
- Merchant services
- Fraud prevention tools
- Partner with commercial lenders to deepen commercial relationships and improve deposit capture.
- Establish treasury management as a key revenue and relationship driver.
Retail Banking & Branch Strategy
- Provide leadership to branch banking teams to improve:
- deposit production
- customer service
- cross-selling
- operational efficiency
- Evaluate branch performance and optimize branch network strategy.
- Develop sales culture within retail teams focused on relationship banking.
Product Development & Pricing
- Oversee development and management of deposit products including:
- checking
- savings
- money market
- CDs
- specialty accounts
- Work with ALCO and finance to manage deposit pricing strategy and cost of funds.
- Monitor competitor pricing and market trends.
Liquidity & Funding Management
- Collaborate with the CFO and ALCO to manage the bank’s funding mix.
- Ensure deposit growth supports loan growth and liquidity targets.
- Monitor concentration risk within the deposit portfolio.
Customer Experience
- Lead initiatives to enhance customer onboarding, service delivery, and retention.
- Champion digital banking tools and modern banking experiences.
- Develop programs to improve customer satisfaction and engagement.
